Dealing With A Suicide Attempt

My husband is severely depressed. We have had some very bad times dealing with his depression and anxiety, and the worst came today when he took an overdose of all his medication. I just don't know how to react to this latest incident. I don't know how to respond to caring friends and family members who ask about "John." I am so afraid of saying or doing the wrong thing. I can't be alone in my fears. Can you give me any  suggestions?

Though it may feel very lonely, you are certainly not alone now that you have contacted us. The Praisenation staff are praying for you and we will be here for as long as you want us to be.

The first thing you must do is pray yourself  (do it now). Pray that Jesus be in your life to guide and strengthen you at this time. Pray for calmness to fill your life and pray for understanding among your caring friends and family. Of course, pray for John that his depression be lifted in the name of Jesus.

Next, get in touch with your local Pastor and/or Biblical Councilor as soon as possible. They can help you through these dark times.

Many spouses and family members struggle with the issues of mental illness in a loved ones and I believe that joining a support group could be very helpful to you.
